What is Bestu Ellefu and who are you?

Bestu Ellefu is Icelandic for “Best Eleven” and is the name I gave to the social media accounts I put together to write about football in Iceland, and now it’s the name of this website.

My name is Gus and I was brought up on watching football at all levels – watching internationals, English Premier League and local non-league football across the tiers and across England. Now based in Glasgow, Scotland I mostly go to watch local teams in Maryhill FC and Glasgow City.

What you’ll find from B11 is posts of the scores from the league season and major cup competitions, roundups of the top performers, prediction games, and more fun stuff.

I appreciate football across all levels because it’s fun. There’s much more to football than the highest echelons. That’s why millions of people of people go beyond just watching the World Cup final, it’s why some of you care about football in Iceland, and some of you even the lower leagues there, women’s and men’s football alike. Football is personal, and for better or worse these teams are part of our lives, for some they are a major part of it. From Wembley to Bolungarvík I have watched teams competing, and I loved it all.
