American midfielder Brookelynn Entz completed an impressive college soccer career at Kansas State University with the honour of being drafted to the NWSL. Lucky for us though, she started her professional journey in Iceland, winning a double with Valur. In 16 appearances across all competitions, she got a first taste of Champions League football, and the team were undefeated when she saw the field. Coincidence? HK didn’t seem to think so, as they signed Brookelynn up for the 2023 season in which she would be their top scorer with 14 goals and receive their player of the year award.
When I asked Brookelynn to take part in this photo diary, her HK team had just won their first League Cup match 3-1 against Grindavík, and she had opened her 2024 goal scoring account after just 15 minutes. The diary takes off the following morning and runs until the day of their next match, in which they were beaten 2-0 by an Afturelding side that had won their own opener 9-2. Brookelynn shows us the personal side to her life as a professional footballer on a short recovery period between two games.

Thank you to Brookelynn for doing this inaugural photo diary with me. If you’re a player in any of the men’s and women’s divisions of Iceland’s meistaraflokkur, and you’d like to have a photo diary of your own on the site, send me a message…
